1. Core Role of Stacker Cranes in Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems

 

The stacker crane serves as the core execution unit for high-rise rack three-dimensional loading and unloading within AS/RS. All inbound, outbound and stock transfer operations of the whole warehouse are executed by stacker cranes, functioning as the handling engine for warehouse automation.

 

1.1 Basic Operating Functions with Three-Dimensional Movement

 

Travel horizontally along overhead & ground rails, lift vertically and telescope the load fork with three-axis linkage to perform three core operations:

 

• Warehouse Receipt: Deposit pallets or bins from conveyor lines into designated high-level rack locations with high precision

 

• Warehouse Dispatch: Retrieve goods from deep rack positions and deliver them to docking stations at the aisle end

 

• Stock Relocation: Adjust storage positions, conduct inventory checks, batch sorting and inventory rotation following FIFO principle

 

Positioning accuracy reaches ±1~2 mm with dual positioning configuration of laser rangefinder and encoder to eliminate placement and picking errors.

 

1.2 Core Carrier for Maximizing Space Utilization

 

• Compatible with rack height ranging from 5m to 40m, while conventional forklifts can only work up to around 3 meters. Storage density can be raised by 3 to 4 times, greatly cutting factory rental and land costs.

 

• Adopts narrow aisle design (aisle width merely 0.5~1m wider than equipment body), saving 60% aisle footprint compared with forklift working aisles.

 

1.3 Hub for Fully Automated Closed-Loop Workflow

 

Interlinked with peripheral equipment to form unattended operation loop:

 

1. Receive order instructions from WMS (Warehouse Management System), then task assignments issued by WCS (Warehouse Control System)

 

2. Interface with conveying lines, RGV, AGV and sorting machines for cargo docking transfer

 

3. Integrate barcode & RFID identification to feed real-time inventory data back to system

 

4. Support 7/24 continuous operation, handling 30~60 stock in/out cycles per hour per aisle, capable of replacing 3~6 forklift operators

 

1.4 Guarantee for Safety & Precise Inventory Control

 

Equipped with multi-layer protection systems: overload protection, overspeed prevention, rope slack detection, position inspection, anti-collision device and emergency stop buttons.

It keeps cargo damage and picking error rate close to zero, meeting compliance requirements for pharmaceutical, automotive, food and other strict-standard warehousing industries.

 

1.5 Classification for Scenario Adaptation

 

1. Single-column Stacker Crane: Light weight and cost-effective; rated load ≤1000kg, maximum height ≤12m. Applied for small bins and light pallets.

 

2. Double-column Stacker Crane: High structural rigidity for heavy-duty high-rise usage; load capacity 1~5 tons, height range 12~40m, ideal for manufacturing raw materials and heavy pallets.

 

3. Bin-type Stacker Crane: Lightweight high-speed model dedicated to small turnover boxes and e-commerce small goods.
